CANADA’S NATIONAL MEN’S SUMMER UNDER-18 TEAM
ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS AT 2010 MEMORIAL OF IVAN HLINKA

PIESTANY, Slovakia – Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team has advanced to the semifinals at the 2010 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka after winning Group B with a perfect 3-0 record. Canada will face the Czech Republic in semifinal action on Friday in Breclav, Czech Republic (1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT).

On Wednesday, Canada completed an unbeaten round robin with a 6-1 win over Slovakia. Boone Jenner (Dorchester, Ont./Oshawa, OHL) scored twice to lead the offence, while Duncan Siemens (Sherwood Park, Alta./Saskatoon, WHL) and Matt Puempel (Essex, Ont./Peterborough, OHL) added a goal and an assist each as Canada scored three goals in 53 seconds midway through the third period to break open a 3-1 game. Scott Harrington (Kingston, Ont./London, OHL) and Myles Bell (Calgary, Alta./Regina, WHL) had the other Canadian goals.

Canada posted earlier wins over Sweden (6-3) and Switzerland (7-3) to help it claim first place.

In Friday’s other semifinal, the United States will face Sweden in Piestany (11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT).

Canada has won the tournament in back-to-back years, and five of the last six, dating back to 2004. Canada’s roster is made up of 13 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders, and features 13 players from the Ontario Hockey League, four from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, four from the Western Hockey League and one from the Central Canadian Hockey League.
