TSN/RDS TO BROADCAST TWO GAMES LIVE, INCLUDING GOLD MEDAL FINAL
KITCHENER, ON – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) and the
City of Kitchener, is set to host the world’s top women’s hockey nations at the 2006 4 Nations Cup in
Kitchener, ON from November 7-11. All games will be played at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex (The
Aud) and will showcase the world’s four highest ranked countries in women’s hockey: Canada, Finland, Sweden
and USA.
This year’s 4 Nations Cup event takes place during Hockey Canada Week, a national recognition of hockey
across Canada, that is celebrated from November 4th to 11th. The 4 Nations Cup is one of many events
and initiatives happening this week, check www.hockeycanada.ca for
more details.
As well as being the two-time defending Olympic women’s hockey champions, Canada is the reigning 4 Nations
Cup champion after claiming victory at last year’s tournament in Finland. Canada has won eight (’05, ‘04,
’02, ’01, ’00, ’99, ’98, ’96) of ten Nation Cup events, dating back to the inaugural event in 1996 (USA won
in 1997 and 2003).
Canada has hosted the Nations Cup on three previous occasions. In 2002, when Kitchener hosted this event
for the first time, Canada defeated USA 4-2 in the gold medal final. In 1999, Canada defeated USA 3-2 in the
3 Nations final in Montreal, QC while Ottawa, ON saw Canada defeat USA 1-0 in the 1996 3 Nations Cup
final.
